What the 3-Series coupe could have been Posted 2009/12/10 By Spencer Woods
Sure the current BMW 3-Series coupe and convertible are old news, but its still fun to see what could have been. While going through some of the pictures from Chris Bangle's lecture earlier this month, we found a few shots from what he labeled as a rejected design study for the E92 3-Series.
The car that made it into production is evolved into a grown-up, executive look from its predecessor. This one seems to suggest more youthful and fun attitude.
The elements in this study seem to borrow the aggressive outward bulging creases of the new 5-Series, and it also seems to borrow its hood design as well. If this car went into production, it could have provided a little brother to the next 6 -Series, and possibly this design was rejected to keep the 3-Series coupe/convertible distinctive. At the very least, these shots should give a good idea of where the next 6-Series is going.
