Your eBay life can sometimes be just like your social life. Sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and sometimes we all wake up with a head full of regrets. For these times intoxication is usually the best excuse. That’s why we issue DWBs (Drunk While Bidding).
The Subaru Justy never earned much respect. They had about as much power as a fart in the wind and were dismissed as the same. But one owner has taken this little cow pie and turned into something that goes like stink.
On the outside it looks like a mildly rusting little hatchback with a hood scoop hastily added to gain some respect in the high school parking lot. But underneath the low-budget digs this 1993 Justy has a secret weapon: a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.
The donator is from the Justy’s younger and more athletic brother, a 2002 Impreza WRX. The stock engine makes 227 hp, over three times more power than the Justy’s original 1.3-liter engine, but the car’s builder didn’t stop there. Modifications to the WRX unit include an evo16g turbo, STI injectors, large aftermarket intercooler, K&N typhoon intake, custom header, and modified HKS exhaust.
The conversion doesn’t just include the engine. This stealth Justy borrowed the transmission, differential, axles, and brakes from the WRX. It also has a full roll cage, sport seats seats, larger wheels, and the battery has been relocated to the trunk.
We really do like the whole little car/big engine idea. We could almost try to make a case to compare this car to a Pontiac GTO, or in this case, the Justy is probably a closer kin to the Yamaha-engined Festiva SHOguns. But in our heart we know this 100% Japanese car is a 100% redneck conversion.
So after all this praise why are we giving this car a DWB? Simple: if moonshine came in airplane-size bottles, this AWD go-kart would be our choice to run in the backwoods to avoid Johnny Law.
