GM's EN-V goes for a joyride Posted 2010/07/29 @ 10:00 PM By Spencer Woods
General Motors took one of its Electric Networked-Vehicles (EN-V) out for a little test drive around the streets of Shanghai earlier this week. Different divisions within GM produced three different EN-V designs, and all of them are on display in China for the World’s Fair from now until the end of October.
It was the car named Jiao (Pride) built by GM’s Australian arm Holden that got out for the photo opportunity around Shanghai. Just like all the other EN-V concepts, Jiao weighs about 900 lbs. and has a top speed of 25 mph. Its lithium-ion batteries have a range of about 25 miles, so the outing lasted only about ten minutes.
As these pictures prove, the EN-V has no trouble fitting in a congested city. Still, seeing the tiny pod car out in traffic with today’s vehicles just shows we have a long way to go if the EN-V is the future of urban transportation.
