2012 British Motor Show canceled Posted 2010/10/14 @ 06:00 AM By Myles Kornblatt
The British International Motor Show has been officially canceled for 2012. Last held in 2008, this announcement marks the second time in a row this biennial event has been called off.
“The British International Motor Show has been a tremendously successful showcase for the UK motor industry. In recent years the show has played a less important role in influencing new car buyers and vehicle manufacturers are focusing their limited resources on events and activities that have a more direct impact on brand awareness and consumer decisions,” said Paul Everitt chief executive for Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Some auto shows in the U.S. may be in jeopardy for similar reasons why the U.K. has halted (temporarily?) its new car show. The motor show was born out of the idea to introduce the public in major markets to all the new cars that will soon be available. But with plenty of pics and info now available on the internet, the big auto show is becoming less of a sales tool.
The ability to have the major media in one place during the press days is still a big advantage of the traditional auto show, but it may not be enough to keep all of the major U.S. shows (and many of the minor ones) alive for much longer.
Rather then try to find a place for the old-style British Motor Show in the modern world, let’s just enjoy the glamour that once was (click the picture below for video link):
